HBE Services was appointed to provide the structural steelwork and temporary steelwork to enable the alterations to an existing truss at third floor level, the complex works allowed us to install two number temporary 18 metre trusses which using hydraulic jacks unload the truss at third floor which was hanging the first floor slab and re configure the truss.

Along with these works was the addition of a new pavilion and roof terrace and internal steelwork alterations culminating in the CAT B Fit our of feature staircases and glass balustrade.

The temporary truss has to be designed to be delivered in sections through the rear double roller shutter door and lifted up through a 3m x 1m hole in the slab using a frame gantry once on the first floor the 1.5 tonne sections were to be bolted together using specialised TCB (Tension Control Bolts) and allow the jacking to commence releasing approx. 1000 tonne from the existing truss our specialised welders then went to work re-configuring the existing truss by cutting out and re introducing new cords and some impressive 20mm fillet welds. Every weld was tested and signed off before removing the jacks and then the removal and disposal of the temporary trusses.

The pavilion was then lifted to the roof in a similar fashion and installed with a small spider crane due to the complex shape of the pavilion.

"Designed, installed, jacked and unloaded exactly as planned. To make complex structural changes seamless within existing buildings are always impressive, well done to all involved."
